The 10th annual WhiskyFest™ Chicago was a great success!

Malt Advocate magazine, presenter of WhiskyFest, hosted another memorable evening to gather, taste, discover and share over 260 whiskies and other fine spirits and beer.  The evening afforded the attendees an opportunity to sample some rare and exclusive whiskies from around the world.  Craft distillers were a huge hit; some making their debut at the event.  The non-whisky exhibitors certainly did not feel left out; samples of beer, rum and cognac flowed.

Attendees travelled near and far for this event.  A majority of the ticketholders represented Illinois and the neighboring states, but others’ made the trek from California, Florida and various states in between, Canada and Hong Kong.

Attendees had the opportunity to not only taste, but learn.  The exhibitors were happy to pour their expressions for guests to sample and happier to answer questions from attendees.  Those inclined to further their whisk(e)y knowledge were welcome to attend any number of seminars conducted by various speakers: Winston Evans of The Glenlivet, Robin Coupar of The Glenrothes, Martin Duffy of The Classic Malts, Lincoln Henderson of Suntory, Craig Beam of Heaven Hill, Michael Heads of Ardbeg, Fritz Maytag of Anchor Distilling Co., and Martin Daraz of Highland Park.  The Whyte and Mackay session was very informative despite the absence of Richard Paterson who was unable to attend due to the volcanic ash disruption to air travel.

Chicago was a whisky wonderland for the week of WhiskyFest.  The 30 events held in six days proved to be memorable.  From whisky and dinner pairings, tastings with Distillery Managers, brand events, to bar crawls.  Something for everyone!

Malt Advocate extends sincere gratitude to all of our exhibitors, speakers, the bars and restaurants who participated in WhiskyWeek and to all of our attendees.  We appreciate all of the feedback you offer.  Here are a few comments we have received following WhiskyFest Chicago 2010:

“WhiskyFest Chicago 2010 was another smashing success!”

“This was my first WhiskyFest and I could not have had a better experience . . . I enjoyed sampling drinks that I may not typically be able to try.  I will continue to attend WhiskyFest on a yearly basis.”

“The Chicago event was spectacular as they always are!  This was my fourth WhiskyFest, three in Chicago / 1 in San Francisco.  All have been instructional, the distillers presenting varied and knowledgeable, the seminars a great source of knowledge, and the food is always top notch.  I will keep coming year after year.”

The pouring list, the speakers and seminars, the endless gourmet buffet, the gift-filled bags received upon admission and so much more – all made for a memorable event.  Find out when WhiskyFest Chicago 2011 will be held by subscribing to WhiskyNotes.  WhiskyNotes is a free newsletter delivered to your inbox every two weeks containing whisky news stories, whisky-tasting events, highlights from the What Does John Know blog, plus WhiskyFest and Malt Advocate updates. Each issue features a specially-discounted Marketplace item, too!
